This project was contracted under the Global Green Growth Institute to our Senior Partner, Farizan d’Avezac de Moran.
RWANDA- Sustainability was a key consideration for the design of the New Bugesera International Airport in Rwanda. Located on a greenfield site to the southeast of the capital city Kigali, sustainable solutions included the use of preconditioned air on all aircraft stands, forced natural ventilation in all buildings, together with the use of an underground cool air system within the passenger terminal. Rainwater harvesting and a non-site recycling and waste processing facility have added to the project’s strong sustainability benefits.
The New Bugesera International Airport is targeted to achieve the Green Mark Certification and is expected to be the first green-certified Airport in Africa.
